Zone Diet
Review
Dr. Barry Sears developed the Zone Diet as a 40/30/30 plan,
which means dieters eat forty percent carbohydrates, thirty
percent fat, and thirty percent protein.
The balanced plan is believed to lead to not only weight
loss, but it is also believed to help dieters avoid certain
diseases.
How It Works
The secret behind the Zone Diet plan has to do with insulin
production. It believes that insulin has a direct correlation
with weight loss. Insulin is expected to be the culprit of
heart disease, diabetes and weight gain.
Thus, the diet focuses on keeping insulin production low. It
is believed that fat cannot be burned when there is a lot of
insulin in the bloodstream.
Keeping with that theory, the diet plan focuses on
foods that will keep insulin levels at a normal rate.
The carbohydrates used in the diet are from fruits and
vegetables. Flour is avoided, as is processed foods. Processed
foods contain a lot of calories and are not recommended for
those on the Zone.
The plan allows dieters to eat three meals a day, and have
two snacks each day as well.
Snacks need to be low in sugar but should be eaten in order
to keep dieters from getting too hungry. When dieters get too
hungry, they often overindulge later in the day.
How Do I Follow The
Plan?
When you eat the meals with the Zone Diet, you are going to
do so in an exact way. You will take a plate and on that plate
you will need to divide your foods up. There should be a
division of 40/30/30.
Your forty percent is your carbohydrates, and you need to
keep the carbohydrates simple. Green vegetables, corn,
cauliflower and peppers are all recommended.
For your meat, you are going to need to have meat that is
comparable to the size of a palm, which will then translate
into four ounces of chicken or steak. Fat needs to be removed
from the meat before it is prepared.
Fats are present in the meal for a reason. Not only do they
slow digestion, but they also provide energy for a long period
of time. This leads to dieters feeling satisfied for longer
periods of time. Nuts and canola oil are recommended sources of
fat on the diet.
In addition, you need to watch out for sugars. Of course,
you know to not eat high sugar candy or cake, but there are
other foods you must watch out for as well.
Heavily starched food such as bread, pasta and noodles must
be avoided. These foods are very addictive and they can hurt
your diet.

Review Conclusion
This plan is cost effective. You do not have to buy
prepackaged foods, so you can save money on your grocery bill
by buying regular groceries. You will be able to grocery shop
and just add some healthy food to your shopping list.
If you have children, you can prepare the same meal for them
that you prepare for yourself. In many cases, your children
will probably not even notice the difference.
